The Tamiya Scania R470 Highline – 56318 brings one of Scania’s most recognisable long-haul tractor units to Tamiya’s highly detailed 1/14 scale RC truck range.

Based on Scania’s award-winning R-Series, which made its debut in 2004 and was named International Truck of the Year 2005, the R470 combines classic European truck styling with Tamiya’s impressive scale engineering.

With its detailed tilting cab, aluminium ladder-frame chassis, working 3-speed transmission, realistic leaf-spring suspension and 540 motor, the R470 is just as rewarding to build and customise as it is to drive.

Highly Detailed Scania Highline Cab

Tamiya has carefully reproduced the aerodynamic shape of the Scania R470 Highline, including a realistic front grille featuring mesh material for additional scale detail.

One of the particularly impressive features is the cab itself. Just like the full-size Scania, the cab can tilt forward separately from the fenders, revealing more of the truck’s chassis and mechanical detail.

Even the inner and outer sections of the fenders have been reproduced, demonstrating the level of attention Tamiya has given to this model.

Realistic Ladder-Frame Chassis

Underneath the Scania body is a durable ladder-frame chassis constructed using aluminium channels and resin cross members.

A front-mounted 540 motor sends power through the drivetrain and propeller shaft to the driven rear axle.

Tamiya uses a pin-type propeller shaft joint to help reduce frictional losses through the drivetrain.

Working 3-Speed Transmission

The Scania R470 features Tamiya’s fully functional 3-speed transmission.

With suitable multi-channel radio equipment and a gear-change servo installed, the transmission can be shifted remotely from the transmitter while the truck is moving.

This mechanical gearbox is one of the features that makes Tamiya’s 1/14 truck range so different from conventional RC vehicles.

Scale Suspension & Drivetrain

The suspension closely recreates the layout of a full-size heavy truck, using metal leaf springs and coil-spring dampers.

At the front is a durable die-cast metal axle, float-mounted on the suspension. The rear axle uses resin construction and incorporates a differential gear for smooth cornering.

Ready for a Tamiya Trailer

The kit includes a working fifth-wheel coupler, allowing the Scania R470 to be connected to compatible Tamiya 1/14 scale semi-trailers.
