The Tamiya Volvo FH16 Globetrotter 750 6×4 Timber Truck is one of the most distinctive models in Tamiya’s 1/14 scale RC truck range. Rather than a conventional tractor and semi-trailer combination, this impressive model recreates a purpose-built European timber truck, complete with an extended rear load bed, heavy-duty stakes and protective cab headboard.

At an enormous 733mm long, the completed Volvo has serious presence. Underneath the detailed body is equally impressive engineering, including a 6×4 drivetrain, twin driven rear axles, working 3-speed transmission and TR Mighty Tuned 35T motor.

Volvo FH16 Globetrotter Styling

The model is based on the flagship Volvo FH16 Globetrotter, powered in full-size form by a mighty 16.1-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 750hp.

Tamiya recreates the distinctive FH16 cab in ABS plastic, complemented by a highly detailed stainless-steel photo-etched front grille.

A detailed cab interior is also included, adding further realism to the finished truck.

Purpose-Built Timber Load Bed

What really sets this model apart is the long rear timber-carrying bed.

The distinctive load stakes and cab rear headboard use a durable combination of resin and metal components, creating the appearance of a genuine heavy-duty logging truck.

Tamiya even provides downloadable printable templates that can be used to create paper craft logs, allowing you to give the completed truck a realistic load.

Powerful 6×4 Drivetrain

This is a genuine 6×4 configuration, with power delivered to both rear axles.

The front-mounted motor transfers power through propeller shafts to the rear drivetrain, with a built-in differential in each driven axle helping the truck corner smoothly.

Tamiya supplies its TR Mighty Tuned 35T motor, providing plenty of low-speed power for this large model, including when carrying a load on the rear bed.

Working 3-Speed Transmission

The Volvo features Tamiya’s assembly-type 3-speed transmission, adding another level of mechanical realism.

When fitted with suitable multi-channel radio equipment, gear changes can be controlled remotely from the transmitter, allowing you to select the appropriate gear while driving.

Heavy-Duty Ladder Frame & Suspension

Supporting the long timber truck body is a substantial ladder-frame chassis featuring:

Important MFC Lighting Information

This is particularly important if you’re planning to install a Tamiya Multi-Function Control system.

The standard LED cables supplied with Tamiya MFC units are not long enough/compatible with the lighting layout of this model.

Longer-cable LED sets are available separately:

*A separate conventional ESC is not required when using a compatible Tamiya MFC system that provides motor speed control.

A Seriously Impressive Tamiya Truck

At 733mm long, the Volvo FH16 Timber Truck is one of those models that really needs to be seen in person to appreciate its scale.

The combination of the long timber bed, realistic load stakes, powerful 35T motor, twin driven rear axles and working 3-speed transmission gives it a completely different character from a conventional Tamiya tractor unit. Add a realistic timber load, lighting and an MFC system and it becomes an exceptional scale RC truck that’s just as enjoyable to build as it is to operate.
