The Tamiya Scania 770 S 8×4/4 Gun Metal – 56376 is one of the largest and most impressive trucks in Tamiya’s 1/14 scale RC Tractor Truck Series, recreating the mighty flagship of Scania’s Next Generation range.

Powered in full-size form by a 770hp V8 turbo engine, the Scania 770 S is designed for serious heavy-haul work. Tamiya’s version captures this imposing appearance with its four-axle configuration, highly detailed S-series cab and an impressive collection of scale equipment behind the cab.

This special version also saves one of the biggest jobs during the build, with the cab and key components factory pre-painted in Tamiya TS-38 Gun Metal and finished with a protective urethane top coating.

Impressive 8×4/4 Configuration

The designation 8×4/4 describes one of the standout features of this model.

Just like the full-size Scania, the Tamiya truck features:

• Twin steering front axles
• Twin driven rear axles

This gives the finished model a fantastic heavy-haul stance and makes it noticeably different from Tamiya’s more conventional two- and three-axle tractor units.

Factory-Painted Gun Metal Cab

The highly detailed injection-moulded Scania S-series cab and specified associated components come pre-painted in Tamiya TS-38 Gun Metal.

Tamiya also applies a urethane top coating, giving the parts a high-quality finished appearance straight from the box.

It’s an excellent option if you want a professionally finished Scania without having to undertake the main cab painting yourself.

Incredible Scale Detail

At the rear of the cab, Tamiya has recreated the type of equipment found on a full-size heavy-haul tractor unit.

Details include a substantial auxiliary machinery tower, fuel tank and air tank, giving the Scania the purposeful appearance of a truck designed for demanding heavy transport work.

The kit also includes a detailed interior with modern-style dashboard and seats, plus a 1/14 scale driver figure.

Stickers and metal transfers are supplied to complete the scale appearance.

Second Lift Axle

Another particularly interesting feature is the truck’s second front axle, which recreates the lift-axle arrangement of the full-size vehicle.

The axle can be manually raised and lowered, adding another impressive mechanical detail to the model.

Metal leaf-spring suspension is used throughout to further enhance the scale appearance and operation of the chassis.

Metal Ladder-Frame Chassis

Underneath the cab is a substantial chassis incorporating numerous metal components.

The motor and transmission are mounted towards the front of the metal ladder frame, with power transferred through the drivetrain to the twin rear axles.

Combined with the twin steering front axles, the result is one of the most mechanically interesting chassis layouts in Tamiya’s truck range.

Working 3-Speed Transmission

The Scania features Tamiya’s assembly-type 3-speed gearbox.

With suitable multi-channel radio equipment and a gear-change servo installed, the transmission can be shifted remotely from the transmitter, allowing you to change gears while driving.
