Ebbro 1/20 Team Lotus Type 88B 1981 E010
The Lotus 88 is an experimental British Formula 1 car that was intended for the 1981 season but never made its track debut. Its designers were Colin Chapman, Tony Rudd, Martin Ogilvie and Peter Wright. The Lotus 88 was powered by a single Ford Cosworth DFV 8-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3 liters. The Lotus 88 was developed to replace another Lotus car: the 87 model. Like its predecessor, it used a monocoque and the same engine, but differed from it on several other planes. First of all, it was aimed at the maximum use of the surface effect, which resulted in further modifications to the shape of the floor and the sides of the car. The Lotus 88 also uses carbon fibers extensively in the body to reduce weight and increase durability. The drivers of the Lotus team, on test drives, praised the new car, but due to protests from other teams, the FIA did not allow Lotus 88 to participate in the Grand Prix races
